Emily Cooper might be all about those Instagram likes, but when it comes to the Emmy nominations, the little Netflix heroine that could scored a big win. Emily in Paris managed to land a major Emmy nomination that’s sure to get its haters all in a tizzy.

Lily Collins stars in the Netflix original comedy series as Emily Cooper, a 20-something who finds her life turned upside down when she moves from Chicago to Paris for the social media job of a lifetime. Once across the pond, Emily receives a culture shock and a new crush.

The romantic comedy series wasn’t particularly met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, ultimately landing a modest rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a tepid response from the Netflix binge-watchers who hated to love or loved to hate Emily in Paris last fall.

Now that Emily’s coming back for season 2 and has a pair of Golden Globe nominations under her perfectly styled belt (though that’s debatable), she’s back for a victory lap in the awards circuit, this time picking up an enviable recognition from the Emmys.

What was Emily in Paris nominated for?

Whether you agree with the nomination or not, Emily in Paris received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show was nominated alongside fellow Netflix originals Cobra Kai and The Kominsky Method as well as Black-ish, Hacks, Pen15, Ted Lasso and The Flight Attendant.

Emily in Paris also picked up a nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour), which pales in comparison to Bridgerton’s whopping 12 nominations. Still, it’s an amazing win for a comedy series that was mostly written off as fluff and unworthy of recognition from major awards academies like these.

Perhaps Emily in Paris’ Outstanding Comedy Series nomination will change how we view TV comfort food and give shows that provide us with pure entertainment a better shot. After all, even if a show isn’t the best or most talked about (in a good way), they still have value.
