2021 Netflix Emmy nominations: 129 nods include Bridgerton and The Crown

Alright, Netflix Lifers, it’s that time of the year again. The Emmy nominations are out and Netflix is up against HBO for the most awards taken home at the end of the night.

The streamer, with a whopping 129 Netflix Emmy nominations, trails behind HBO by one nom which means its anyone’s game come the ceremony Sunday, September 19.

Here’s the full list of 2021 Emmy nominations from Outstanding Animated Program to Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program. But, if you’re looking for a cheat sheet that boils down Netflix’s nominations to the most buzz-worthy awards, we’ve got you.

The following awards are what we have our eye on!

2021 Netflix Emmy nominations

Netflix’s showing at the Emmys is bound to be quite strong. Six of the streamer’s original series are up for the top prizes at the award ceremony. It’s also going to be quite the period piece affair as Bridgerton, The Crown, and Queen’s Gambit are vying for top spot with the most award nominations of the Netflix group.

Bridgerton Emmy nominations

Bridgerton is up for 12 Emmys including Outstanding Drama Series and a lead actor nomination for Regé-Jean Page (Simon Bassett). The series has been a much-talked about original for Netflix. With its subsequent sequels on deck, it’s likely to be award bait for years to come like the royal drama The Crown.

The Crown Emmy nominations

Speaking of the royal family, once again the House of Windsor has been favored. The Crown has been nominated for 24 Emmys which includes a handful of acting nominations and Outstanding Drama Series. The following actors have been nominated:

  • Lead actor in a drama series – Josh O’Connor (Prince Philip)
  • Lead actress in a drama series – Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth II), Emma Corrin (Princess Diana)
  • Supporting actor in a drama series – Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh)
  • Supporting actress in a drama series – Gillian Anderson (Margaret Thatcher), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret), Emerald Fennell (Camilla Parker Bowles)
  • Guest actor in a drama series – Charles Dance (Lord Mountbatten)
  • Guest actress in a drama series – Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II)

Queen’s Gambit Emmy nominations

Netflix’s limited series about a chess playing phenom has 18 nominations to its name including Outstanding Limited or Anthology series, a lead actress nom for Anya Taylor-Joy (Beth Harmon) and supporting actor/actress nods for Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Benny Watts) and Moses Ingram (Jolene)

Cobra Kai Emmy nominations

In its first showing as an Emmy-nominated series, Cobrai Kai is up for 4 nominations. The Karate Kid spin-off has garnered quite the audience on Netflix. It’s Outstanding Comedy Series nod is a nice cherry on top of the show’s ever growing status in pop culture.

The Kominsky Method Emmy nominations

The Michael Douglas-led comedy released its third and final season on Netflix back in May. However, the show’s story isn’t over at least in terms of recognition. The Kominsky Method is up for 6 nominations including a lead actor in a comedy series nod for Douglas (Sandy Kominsky) and Outstanding Comedy Series.

Emily in Paris Emmy nominations

Yes, this polarizing show that many people loved to hate watch is up for two nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series which means three Netflix originals are vying for the crown.
