Our favorite Netflix guilty pleasure has returned. Virgin River season 3 premiered on July 9 and provided answers to all of our burning questions… but left us with even more.

The series picks up in the aftermath of Jack’s shooting at the bar, where Mel finds him with a bullet wound and a whole lot of confusion as to who pulled the trigger on him.

But Jack’s fate wasn’t the only one up in the air in Virgin River season 3. Not only was the hunky bartender and father-to-be left for dead, but the gruff but beloved Doc received some unpleasant medical news of his own, the kind that he’s typically doling out at the clinic.

So, who died in Virgin River season 3? If you’re looking for spoilers on the season’s biggest twists or want the answer explained, you have come to the right place. Here’s your only spoiler warning, as we’re talking in detail about who definitely won’t be hanging around Jack’s Bar next season.

Who dies in Virgin River season 3?

To those of you in love with Jack, don’t worry. His bullet wound wasn’t fatal, though the events surround the shooting are a little fuzzy. The bartender’s back in business soon after healing from being shot, but a couple of other Virgin River favorites weren’t so lucky.

First things first, Doc’s prognosis wasn’t fatal. He’s suffering from age-related macular degeneration, which means he’s starting to lose his eyesight.

Unfortunately, Hope’s best friend Lilly, played by Lynda Boyd, revealed her stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis first to Mel, then to Doc and her daughter, Tara (Stacey Farber). Lilly’s loved ones expected to have more time with her, but she unexpectedly passes ahead of treatment.

What happens to Hope in Virgin River season 3?

Lilly leaves behind her adult daughter and infant daughter, Chloe, without even having the chance to say goodbye to Hope. On her way to the funeral proceedings, Hope gets into a car accident in her rental car, leaving her in a coma due to bleeding in her brain.

While we don’t know Hope’s fate, it wasn’t looking good in the season 3 finale. Currently, it’s unclear if Annette O’Toole, who plays Hope and only appeared in the latest season in a few scenes via video calls, will return to the series if it’s renewed for season 4.

There you have it: Lilly dies in Virgin River season 3 in a heartbreaking turn of events. Stay tuned for more details on Hope’s fate and news on season 4 from Netflix!
