Good Witch canceled after seven seasons: Will Netflix save Good Witch?

For more than a decade, Good Witch has been bringing a bit of magic to Hallmark Channel first through its string of original movies and later as a Hallmark Channel original series.

Although the series is a Hallmark original, it’s become a favorite among Netflix viewers as well thanks to the fact that Netflix is home to many of the show’s seasons. As such, fans have been able to relive the beloved drama via Netflix for years, while newcomers have had the chance to discover the feel-good drama.

Currently, seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Netflix with the future of the show’s most recent two seasons — including its current seventh season — unknown. While the future of those season’s arrival on Netflix remains uncertain, the fate of the show itself has been confirmed… and it’s unfortunately not good news.

Is Good Witch canceled?

After being a staple on Hallmark Channel for several seasons, Hallmark Channel has announced that the show’s current seventh season will be its last. That’s right, Good Witch has been canceled after seven seasons on the air.

The news was confirmed by Hallmark Channel’s SVP of programming and development, Randy Pope, who praised the cast for enchanting viewers for more than a decade across its original movies and seven-season run.

As revealed in a statement (h/t TVLine):

"”Good Witch has enchanted viewers for over a decade with eight original movies, in addition to the seven-season series. We thank our leads whose chemistry and talent made Good Witch such a beloved and uniquely special viewing experience: Catherine Bell, who has brought the inimitable Cassie Nightingale to life for 13 years, and James Denton, who as Dr. Sam Radford has added so much charm and humor to the series. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to the entire cast and crew fortheir dedication and hard work.”"

Will Netflix save Good Witch?

With Hallmark Channel pulling the plug on Good Witch one of the first questions that has come to the minds of fans is whether Netflix could sweep in to save the show and renew it for an eighth season.

Considering Good Witch‘s first five seasons are available to stream on Netflix and Netflix does have a history of saving shows, it’s understandable why there might be a curiosity among fans. Unfortunately, it does not appear that there will be any plans to shop the show around and it’s unlikely that Netflix would save the show even if it were to be shipped around.

While Netflix has saved series in the past, it’s been several years since Netflix has saved a show and just this year the streaming service passed on several more high profile series including Manifest, which has been tearing up the charts since its first two seasons arrived on Netflix in June 2021.

The good news for Good Witch fans is that is does appear the ending was planned which means we should hopefully get closure and there is always the chance Hallmark could look to revisit the franchise in a future Hallmark Channel original movie.
