Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 are coming to Netflix: July 1, 2021

Netflix has a long list of Dreamworks animated films in its catalog. You can now add Kung Fu Panda and its sequel, Kung Fu Panda 2, to the list when they become available on July 1, 2021.

Jack Black voices Po, the Kung Fu Panda, and brings his unique style of hilarity to the films. He is joined by an all-star cast of Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Randall Duk Kim, James Hong, Dan Fogler, Michael Clarke Duncan and Jackie Chan.

The second film sees many of those actors reprise their roles and adds in more all-stars like Gary Oldman, Michelle Yeoh, Danny McBride, Dennis Haysbert, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Victor Garber.

The first two films will be available on Netflix, and the franchise also has a third film and three shorts. This inspired two TV series, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness for Nickelodeon and Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny for Amazon.

Is Kung Fu Panda on Netflix?

Netflix will add Kung Fu Panda and Kung Fu Panda 2 to its Dreamworks titles on July 1, 12:01 a.m. PST or 3:01 a.m. EST. These films are fun for the whole family, which will allow for some great bonding with movie nights.

The films are set in a fantasy wuxia genre. Wuxia means martial heroes, and it is found in Chinese fiction that features anthropomorphic animals — ones who have human characteristics. The Kung Fu Panda movies feature a whole cast of anthropomorphic animals, some of who possess special powers.

Po Ping is a Giant Panda who is very clumsy and mistakenly chosen to be the Dragon Warrior, a kung fu master who would understand the Dragon Scroll. The Dragon Warrior title was expected to be bestowed upon one of the Furious Five: Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper and Crane, a group of highly skilled kung fu warriors.

Po sets out to prove everyone who thinks he can’t handle this task wrong by sticking it out through his training. He eventually befriends the Furious Five, and they must join forces to defeat Tai Lung, an evil warrior who escaped from prison.

These films are a lot of fun with great humor for all ages. Critics spoke highly of the artwork in this film and stated although the storyline may be a bit familiar, the addition of the kung fu action and smart humor make it stand out.
