Sadly, the kid animated film Luca is not on Netflix (here's where you can stream it)

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about a boy and his newfound best friend experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. But their fun is threatened by a secret: they are sea monsters from another world. “Luca” is directed by Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”). © 2020 Disney/Pixar. The beautifully animated fantasy-comedy drama feature Luca was released on a streaming service back in June 2021. But unfortunately, Netflix wasn't the streaming home for the well-crafted, visually stunning family motion picture. Instead, it was released on one of Netflix's rivals. That streaming service is Disney+.

We're now in 2024, and Disney+ is still the streaming home for the animated film. So you'll have to make your way over there to watch it. However, another way you can watch this movie is by purchasing it digitally through Amazon Video, Google Play, Vudu, Apple TV, YouTube, or the Microsoft Store. Lastly, you can buy it on DVD or Blu-Ray from stores like Walmart and Target.

The film had its official premiere at the Aquarium of Genoa on June 13, 2021, and it received critical acclaim. This solidified the Disney Pixar movie as a must-watch endeavor that fans of the genre and great animation should definitely not miss out on!

Heres what some critics had to say about the animated feature via Rotten Tomatoes:

"Luca is a sweet, gentle, sun-kissed film, with gentle rhythms and a generous spirit."

Max Weiss from Baltimore Magazine

"Luca is a winning movie on many levels and works best as a vibrant story about the pure joys of childhood adventure and imagination."

Wenlei Ma from News.com.au

"Luca delivers a slice of one so rich and sweet, you'll practically taste the gelato on your lips for hours afterward. It's a simple pleasure, and one sure to make you smile."

Angie Han from Mashable

Luca’s storyline takes place between the 1950s and 60s in the Italian Riviera, where a young sea monster with the power to transform into a human on dry land meets a human boy named Alberto. They become friends and embark on a life-changing summer.

The cast that brings this excellent narrative to life is Jacob Tremblay, who fans will know from his work on Room and Doctor Sleep. Also starring in Luca is Jack Dylan Grazer, who fans know from Shazam! and It! Rounding out the ensemble of voice acting talent are Maya Rudolph, Jim Gaffigan, Peter Sohn, Sacha Baron Cohen, Marina Massironi, and Sandy Martin.

From the stellar animation to the exemplary story, this is the perfect film to watch during family movie night. However, we know that some people won't be able to watch it. No worries! Netflix has so many other terrific options when it comes to family-friendly features of the animate variety, including The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Over the Moon, The Willoughbys, Wish Dragon, The Sea Beast, Vivo and Leo. If none of these seem like a good fit for you and your family, Netflix still has many more animated titles on its platform for you to check out.
