Is Molly’s Game based on a true story?
Anything written by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin has to be revered as a must-watch endeavor, and one of the films on his illustrious resume that many have mistakenly slept on is the 2017 biographical crime drama Molly’s Game. The film received nominations from several award shows, including the Golden Globes, Writers Guild Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Academy Awards.
Molly Bloom, a former Olympic downhill skier, became the target of an FBI investigation after the underground poker empire she coordinated catering to the likes of business tycoons, athletes, movie stars, and the Russian Mob was exposed. Bloom’s life was on the line, and then she had to fight to prove she wasn’t the criminal they were making her out to be with very few allies to help her out.
Molly’s Game features an elite cast of some of the industry’s top-tier players like Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Kostner, Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd, Bill Camp, Joe Keery, and Brian d’Arcy James. The motion picture also serves as Sorkin’s directorial debut showcasing his ability to turn his own words into a cinematic reality.
The story of how an Olympic athlete ran one of the biggest underground poker games ever played in the shadows is insanely good and is currently available on Netflix.
