5 must-see shows and movies on Netflix this week

This list is in release date order to make sure you have something to watch throughout the week.

Selena: The Series Season 2

The first season of Selena: The Series told the story of Selena Quintanilla’s tragically short life. She was an iconic Mexican-American pop star, known as the Queen of Tejano music. The first season was all about her rise to stardom.

Selena: The Series Season 2 will delve into her marriage to guitarist Chris Pérez, as well as her meeting with Yolanda Saldívar. For those who don’t know, Saldívar was the woman responsible for Selena’s murder in 1995.

All nine episodes will drop on Netflix on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness

For those who like true-crime docuseries, you’ll want to check out The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness. Despite David Berkowitz being convicted as a serial killer, author Maury Terry is sure he didn’t act alone. So, he dives into an investigation into the Son of Sam murders, and it goes far deeper than anyone ever considered.

However, it also cost him everything. The docuseries goes into his search for the truth and everything that it led to.

Watch the limited docuseries on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Girl from Nowhere Season 2

If you love the likes of Elite and Control Z, you’ll want to check out Girl from Nowhere on Netflix. It’s a Thai series that follows a girl who goes from school to school and unveils secrets at each new place. The first season was a hit, but it’s been a long-time coming for the second season.

That second season drops this week, and it just has to be one of the shows and movies on Netflix to check out. The downside is there are only eight episodes this time, but the show promises to be just as thrilling as the first season.

Check out Girl from Nowhere Season 2 on Friday, May 7.

Jupiter’s Legacy Season 1

Need a superhero series that is a little different to what you’re used to but don’t want it quite as violent and gory as Amazon’s The Boys? You’re in a lot of luck! Netflix brings Jupiter’s Legacy this week.

The series follows a group of children of superheroes. Their parents were the first generation of superheroes to keep the world safe for almost 100 years, and now the legacy falls on the children. Can they all live up to expectations? The drama covers decades to show how dynamics change.

Watch the series on Friday, May 7.

Monster

Finally, it’s all about a movie that originally premiered at Sundance Film Festival back in 2018. Netflix is finally bringing it to us, and it’s something for everyone to watch.

Monster follows the story of a 17-year-old Black high school student with a bright future. All he has to do is stay on the straight and narrow to follow his filming aspirations. When he’s accused of murder, his whole life is tipped upside down, and now it’s all about focusing on survival in a justice system that is against him.
