Romantic comedy fans were surely hooked when The Baker and the Beauty debuted on ABC around this time last year, so it comes as no surprise that viewers were all heartbroken when it was announced the show was canceled. According to TV Line back in June 2020, the feel-good series was ultimately canned because of low ratings. This might be hard to believe now, considering the show has breathed new life on Netflix.

That’s right: The Baker and the Beauty season 1 debuted on Netflix on April 13, 2021, and quickly became one of the platform’s most popular shows. At the time of this article, the romantic series taking place at a bakery sits at the #4 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list. Not bad for a show that was canceled!

If you haven’t checked out this cute series and want to know more, here’s the official synopsis for The Baker and the Beauty:

"Daniel Garcia is working in the family bakery and doing everything that his loving Cuban parents and siblings expect him to do. But on a wild Miami night he meets Noa Hamilton, an international superstar and fashion mogul, and his life moves into the spotlight. Will this unlikely couple upend their lives to be together and pull their families into a culture clash?"

The ABC show is actually an adaptation of an Israeli comedy titled Beauty and the Baker, which first debuted in 2017 and has two seasons under its belt.

Is The Baker and the Beauty season 2 happening?

Like its Israeli predecessor, will The Baker and the Beauty receive a second season? Well, we know ABC will likely not revive it considering they made the choice to cancel it. However, another network could very well come out and save the romantic comedy. At the time of this article, though, there are no known plans for The Baker and the Beauty season 2.

Will Netflix save The Baker and the Beauty?

Many fans watching the series on Netflix hope the streaming service will bring it back to life, and the viewers aren’t the only ones. The Baker and the Beauty star Nathalie Kelley and the showrunner Dean Georgaris recently spoke with Newsweek on the possibility.

While addressing the series’ popularity on Netflix, Kelley told the site:

"“It’s pretty miraculous that after being canceled on ABC it has shot to number one in TV shows and number two on Netflix overall—with no advertizing or press! In light of this achievement there is in fact talk of what the future could hold for our show… What I’m hearing is that if we can sustain this incredible momentum there is a chance it could make financial sense for Netflix to make a Season 2.”"

Georgaris seems to be on the same page as Kelley, adding to Newsweek:

"“We came very close to finding a home for Baker last year after ABC canceled it. With this new insight from the Netflix response, we are all actively talking to each other (producers and studio and buyers) to see if there is a path forward.”"

As avid Netflix watchers know, saving The Baker and the Beauty would hardly be the first time the streaming service has brought new life to a canceled series. Shows such as Lucifer, Arrested Development, and The Killing are just three examples of popular shows which Netflix decided to bring back.

Will we see The Baker and the Beauty season 2 from Netflix? We’ll just have to wait and see, but at least we know the people behind the show are on board.
