Attention, Grishaverse fans! Shadow and Bone has officially dropped on Netflix, and I’m sure most fans are either counting down the hours until work is over and they can binge the series, or have already started. If you’re unaware, the streaming service’s latest sci-fi-/fantasy title is based on the YA book of the same name by Leigh Bardugo, and the most exciting part is that it’s actually part of a book series. This, of course, is leaving viewers wondering what the fate of the TV adaptation is after the debut season.

And despite there being tons of hype around the release of Shadow and Bone, we still don’t have a concrete answer from Netflix regarding a potential second season.

Is Shadow and Bone season 2 happening?

With that said, we do have good news! Shadow and Bone definitely has not been canceled as of the time of this writing, and there have been rumors that Shadow and Bone season 2 is in fact happening. According to the site What’s On Netflix, the series has been renewed. However, Netflix has yet to comment.

We’re assuming Netflix will wait a little bit before officially announcing Shadow and Bone season 2, if it does happen. At this point, there’s really no reason I can think of why a next installment wouldn’t be in the works. There is the Grishaverse trilogy to follow, with Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising following Shadow and Bone. On top of that, Bardugo continued the same universe with the Six of Crows Duology and the Nikolai Duology, along with short stories. That means Netflix has a lot more to work with if they do choose to continue the television series.

And it looks like Bardugo and showrunner Eric Heisserer are already making plans for Shadow and Bone season 2, even though it hasn’t officially been announced. Here’s what Bardugo told CBR:

"I mean, we have plans! It’s not up to us whether we get to execute them, but we have many plans and many books that have plenty of road on them. But as my readers have learned, I love a good cliffhanger. I want you to be satisfied at the end of the story but desperate for more, so I think Eric pulled that off quite well."

Our guess is that the Netflix Original won’t be canceled, and we’ll be hearing about a second season sooner or later! As always, we’ll keep you updated on all things Shadow and Bone season 2.
