Is Shadow and Bone renewed for season 2?

Shadow and Bone is going to be the biggest Netflix show of the spring. The fantasy series based on the Grishaverse book series by Leigh Bardugo is coming to Netflix on April 23, 2021.

With a big fanbase, incredible story, and setting in such an interesting world, Shadow and Bone is set up for big success on Netflix. I won’t be surprised if this is the biggest new Netflix show of the year.

Because there’s so much story to dive into, fans are already wondering if Shadow and Bone season 2 is happening at Netflix.

Thanks to a new report from What’s on Netflix, we have a much better idea about what Netflix is planning for the future of Shadow and Bone. 

Is there going to be a season 2 of Shadow and Bone?

It sure sounds like it! According to a report from What’s on Netflix, Shadow and Bone has already been renewed for season 2 at Netflix.

The streaming network has not confirmed the renewal news and likely won’t until after the first season premieres. Netflix usually waits to announce big news like this to the fanbase after gathering all the data on the first season.

Overall, this is really good news for Shadow and Bone fans, who can breathe a little easier knowing Netflix is invested in the series. And, I mean, it was pretty obvious that this was always the plan for Shadow and Bone. Netflix was never going to cram six books (and more on the way!) of story into an eight-episode season.

On top of that, Netflix was never going to invest millions into this story, this world, and then bail after one season. Of all the new Netflix shows, Shadow and Bone seemed like the biggest slam dunk for a season 2 renewal.

So, yeah, this definitely makes sense. I can’t see a scenario where Netflix would leave this show hanging when there’s so much potential for this fantasy drama.

When is Shadow and Bone season 2 coming out?

This, to me, is the much better question: When is Shadow and Bone season 2 coming out?

The What’s on Netflix report did not mention when production is slated to begin on season 2. As far as we know, production on Shadow and Bone season 2 has not started. If that’s the case, we’re in for a long wait until Shadow and Bone season 2 hits Netflix.

This show is such a big production. It’s filmed in and around Budapest, Hungary, and there’s still a pandemic slowing down production TV and movies.

So, if Shadow and Bone season 2 isn’t already in the works, it’s going to be at least a 2022 before we see the new season.

I’m guessing it’ll be late 2022 or early 2023 before we would see the second season Netflix. Shows like this generally have a much bigger gap between seasons than other Netflix dramas. The Last Kingdom, The Umbrella Academy, The Witcher, and others generally need about 18 months between seasons. I’d imagine Shadow and Bone will take about that long as well.

If that’s the case, we could see Shadow and Bone season 2 on Netflix in October, November or December of 2022. We’ll let you know more as soon as we find out!
