How many seasons of Shadow and Bone will there be?

After waiting years and years, fans now get to experience the Grishaverse on TV with the new Netflix original series, Shadow and Bone. 

The new series premiered on April 23, 2021. We think it’s going to be a monster hit for the streaming network based on the buzz, huge fanbase, and more.

For those who are unaware, Shadow and Bone is based on Leigh Bardugo’s book series of the same name and other works that are part of what’s known as the Grishaverse.

Below, we shared what we know about future seasons of Shadow and Bone. 

How many seasons of Shadow and Bone are there?

So far, there is only one season of Shadow and Bone. It was just released on Netflix in 2021, so fans shouldn’t expect to see the next season for a while.

The good news is that it sounds like there is at least another season happening. What’s on Netflix reported things were looking good for a season 2 renewal at Netflix prior to the release of season 1 on Netflix.

Based on how good Shadow and Bone season 1 is, there’s no doubt that Shadow and Bone season 2 is already in the works.

How many seasons of Shadow and Bone will there be?

Shadow and Bone has the most potential to be a long-running Netflix show than, pretty much, any other Netflix show so far. That’s because there’s so much story here for future seasons.

There are currently seven Grishaverse books, and as mentioned, the series is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse books. The first season is clearly telling the story of Shadow and Bone, the first book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the first book of the Grishaverse. But, there’s more going on here than that.

The first season also sets up the next part of the story to include Bardugo’s Six of Crows, the first book of the Six of Crows duology, which followed the Shadow and Bone trilogy. We have to imagine that story will be told or started in season 2.

Without out getting too specific, I think there will be at least three seasons of Shadow and Bone. There’s clearly, clearly, clearly that much story if they stay just within the scope of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and bring the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom stories into the mix. Crooked Kingdom is the second book of the Six of Crows duology.

To me, that’s like the barest of minimums for this series, though.

I’m fully expecting we’ll see at least a five-season run for this show at Netflix, and I think there’s even potential for more seasons down the line. And, that’s because, again, there is so much story here. You wouldn’t take the Harry Potter books, for example, and reduce them down to three movies, right? That just wouldn’t make sense.

That’s the same way I feel about Shadow and Bone. The story and material are there for a seven-season run at Netflix if they bring the stories from King of Scars and Rule of Wolves, the most recent of Bardugo’s Grishaverse books into the FOLD. I couldn’t help myself.

We don’t know how many more Grishaverse books are on the way, but I don’t think this is the end.

So, it might be a high bar, but I’m expecting Shadow and Bone will have at least five or seven seasons on Netflix, and maybe more if everything goes well. I don’t see why it wouldn’t go well. This show has all the makings of something truly extraordinary.
