It’s finally April! March felt like it lasted 200 days but it’s finally over. Spring is here and so are a bunch of new movies and shows on Netflix. Not all of them are brand new, but they might be new to you. Or maybe it’s time for a rewatch!

If you’re in the mood for a rom-com (or three), a horror movie, or a documentary, today is your day. No April Fools here!

First up: the rom-coms. You have your pick of Friends with Benefits with Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon (although this is much more than just a rom-com), My Fair Lady with THE Audrey Hepburn, and The Time Traveler’s Wife with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana.

Of all these movies, Legally Blonde and My Fair Lady are on the top of my list. They may not be the traditional rom-com, but they’re wildly entertaining and show women doing what they can to make it in the world they live in.

What’s new on Netflix: April 1, 2021

More in the mood for horror (or at least horror that isn’t real life?)?? 2012, Insidious, and Leprachaun are all on Netflix today. 2012 stars John Cusack and Thandie Netwon and tells the story of a man trying to keep his family alive while multiple global catastrophes occur. Ok…maybe that’s a little too real.

Insidious stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne and follows a family trying to keep their child away from evil spirits who want to capture them in a different realm. Leprechaun (by far the creepiest of this lineup, in my opinion) stars Warwick Davis and Jennifer Aniston and tells the story of an evil leprechaun who goes on a killing spree looking for his pot of gold.

Looking for some documentaries instead? There are plenty coming to Netflix! Season 1 of Secrets of Great British Castles, White Boy, and season 1 of Worn Stories are all hitting Netflix today. Secrets of Great British Castles is pretty self-explanatory. White Boy is a doc about a white teenager running a drug operation in1980s Detroit.

Worn Stories is a docuseries about the connections people have to clothes and was produced by Jenji Kohan, the producer of Orange Is the New Black and GLOW. It’s based on the bestselling book of the same name by Emily Spivack.
