6. A Walk to Remember

Ready for another tearjerker that is both completely romantic and also utterly devastating? If so, A Walk To Remember is your film. If you haven’t seen this already, be prepared to end up on the couch sobbing for a good hour after the movie is over.

The movie came out in 2002 and stars Mandy Moore, Shane West, Peter Coyote, Daryl Hannah, Lauren German, Clayne Crawford, and Al Thompson.

The story revolves around one of the most popular guys in school, Landon Carter, who is considered a “bad boy” and quite rebellious, and Jamie Sullivan, the minister’s daughter who seems to never do anything wrong.

Landon is part of a prank gone wrong and his punishment (instead of being expelled from school) is to take weekend tutoring, be a janitor, and participate in the school play.

Landon and Jamie officially meet through the school play. While they have been going to school together for most of their lives, this is the first time they’ve really interacted. When Landon starts to struggle with the play, he asks Jamie to help him. And from there, a reluctant friendship turns into a romance.

But it seems not meant to last when Jamie confesses that she has cancer and they’ve exhausted all forms of treatment. Once she is admitted to the hospital, Landon tries to give her all the things she’s ever wanted including building a telescope so she can see a comet. Their relationship becomes even deeper and they eventually get married.

Unfortunately, there is only one way this movie can end. Landon goes onto use Jamie’s memory and her love to go to medical school and become the man she’d want him to be.
