Netflix teen shows with Black leads: Ginny & Georgia

Rating TV-MA

Ginny & Georgia is an upcoming family drama set to release on Netflix this month. The series follows Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry), the 15-year-old daughter of 30-year-old Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) whose maturity out paces her mother’s. When the Millers, including little Austin (Diesel La Torraca), move to a New England town it’s supposed to be a fresh start for their family.

The problem, however, is that every move to a new place is meant to be a fresh start for the Millers. Georgia has a tendency to run when she can’t deal with her feelings. It’s a fact that exasperates Ginny but it’s a reality she lives with along with the back and forth between her parents. But it really does feel like things may be different this time as Ginny makes new friends and meets a boy she might actually get to have a relationship with.

But soon enough Georgia’s past starts to creep back into the picture. A past that’s shadowy and full of secrets that Ginny isn’t aware her mother’s been hiding. Georgia will do anything to protect her kids. Anything. And Ginny could find that truth out in ways she’s not prepared to deal with, not from her flighty and softhearted mother.

Lauded as the successor to Gilmore Girls, this new series will deal with issues of teen pregnancy. Information on the inclusion of mature content is unavailable.

Ginny & Georgia will be available to stream on Feb. 24.
