The 2021 Golden Globe nominations were announced Wednesday, Feb. 3 on the TODAY Show by Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson and Netflix once again netted several nominations.

Leading the pack on the television side with six Golden Globe nominations is Netflix’s acclaimed drama The Crown which managed to once again secure nominations in several of the year’s key categories. In addition to netting a nomination in the Best Drama race, several of the season’s leads managed to receive well-earned nominations including season 4 breakouts Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson.

Following closely behind The Crown was Ozark, which picked up four nominations for its third season including nominations for its leads Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. The series will also go head-to-head with The Crown for this year’s Best Drama award.

It was also a big year for new Netflix originals with Ratched, Emily in Paris, and The Queen’s Gambit each managing to pick up a handful of nominations across the various television. Surprisingly, Netflix’s buzzy period drama Bridgerton was left out in the cold with not a single nomination for the breakout title.

On the cinematic side, Netflix enjoyed one of its best years yet with help from films such as Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Leading the pack with an impressive six Golden Globe nominations was Netflix’s 1930s Hollywood-set original film Mank which picked up nominations in several key races including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and in various acting categories.

The Trial of the Chicago followed closely behind with four nominations including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director — giving Netflix two horses in both major races.

Another breakout on the film side was Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom which picked up three Golden Globe nominations including a well-deserved nomination for Viola Davis as well as a posthumous nomination for Chadwick Boseman.

While Netflix leads the pack in many categories, we’ll have to wait until Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, to see how many Golden Globes Netflix is able to pick up when the Golden Globes air live on NBC!
