Are you looking for the perfect TV show and movie duo to watch this weekend? Look no further!

Grab your favorite TV snacks and settle in to watch the compelling crime drama In the Dark and the teen drama flick All Together Now.

Both of these relatively-new features explore challenging subject matter that is perfectly balanced with a few fleeting lighthearted moments.

They are both highly addictive and can definitely be finished in one weekend.

What to watch this weekend: In the Dark

In the Dark follows a 20-something-year-old blind woman named Murphy Mason. The character is played by Perry Mattfeld who previously played the recurring character Mel in season eight of Shameless.

Murphy is a gloomy and self-destructive young adult who stumbles across a dead body during one of her daily walks. Although she manages to alert the authorities, the body disappears before they arrive. This strange incident intrigues her and leads to her kick-starting her own investigation.

The show is incredibly gritty as Murphy is seemingly miserable; she has floppy relationships, she hates her job, and her investigation gets increasingly fishy. However, it is all of these things that keeps its audience on their toes, constantly hooked on what’s bound to happen next. And when all else goes wrong, at least Murphy has an adorable guide dog to watch!

In the Dark has two seasons and is currently developing a third season.

What to watch this weekend: All Together Now

The Netflix movie All Together Now is just as somber as In The Dark. It tells the heartbreaking and moving story of a high school teen who is battling homelessness and trying to stay afloat throughout her tough circumstance.

While All Together Now doesn’t shy away from exploring dark themes and realistic hardships, it also follows the classic flow of a teen coming-of-age story. There is hope and optimism strung throughout the story.

Another plus: The movie has a highly-acclaimed and diverse cast.

The titular voice actor from Moana Auliʻi Cravalho plays the lead teenager, Amber Appleton. Also featured is Judy Reyes (Scrubs, Devious Maids), Rhenzy Feliz (Runaways), Justina Machado (One Day at a Time), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Portlandia), and the infamous Carol Burnett.

The Netflix synopsis for the show:

"An optimist, talented teen slings to a huge secret: She’s homeless and living on a bus. When tragedy strikes, can she learn to accept a helping hand?"
