All Together Now cast, premiere date, promo and everything to know about the Auli’i Cravalho led Netflix movie

While movie theaters across the nation have remained closed leading to a slower summer movie season than usual, Netflix has been giving fans a variety of new movies to enjoy monthly both including blockbuster caliber content such as The Old Guard and lighter family fare such as its upcoming release All Together Now, which is sure to delight viewers!

Based on Matthew Quick’s novel “Sorta Like a Rock Star,” All Together Now in the simplest terms is a film about finding hope in the darkest of times — a lesson explored through a young musically gifted high schooler hoping to achieve her dreams of attending Carnegie Mellon.

If there is one thing Netflix has proved it can do right, it’s delivering incredible teen movies. Need proof, look no further to the likes of the To All the Boys franchise or the popularity of one-off films such as Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, The Half Of It, or The Kissing Booth. While perhaps not quite as buzzed about, we’re certain All Together Now will soon join the list upon its release.

With the film slated to drop on Netflix this August, Netflix has released all the details fans need to know about the cast, premiere date and first photos for its upcoming Auli’i Cravalho led film!

All Together Now cast

Leading the cast is Auli’i Cravalho, who is best known as voicing the title character of Disney’s Moana. Cravalho stars as the film’s lead character Amber Appleton, who is described by Netflix as being “a musically gifted high school student with aspirations to attend Carnegie Mellon.” While Cravalho has appeared in animated films and held various television roles including in NBC’s musical drama Rise, All Together Now will mark her first live-action film role and we can’t think of a better starring vehicle for the up-and-coming actress!

Adding to the film’s star power are Fred Armisen as Amber’s drama club leader Mr. Franks, Justina Machado as Amber’s single mom Becky and the legendary Carol Burnett as Joan, Amber’s “favorite pessimistic resident” at the retirement community she lends her assistance to.

Rounding out the cast are Rhenzy Feliz, Judy Reyes, Taylor Richardson, C.S. Lee, Anthony Jacques Jr., and Gerald Isaac Waters.

All Together Now premiere date

Fans looking forward to checking out Netflix’s newest teen drama, fortunately, don’t have to wait long! Ahead of revealing its complete August release schedule, Netflix confirmed All Together Now will premiere Friday, Aug. 28, making it the perfect weekend watch for anyone in the mood for a fun family film!

All Together Now promo

Currently, Netflix has not yet released a promo for All Together Now; however, with the film set to release in late August, we anticipate an official trailer should be released soon!

All Together Now synopsis

As teased above, All Together Now tells the story of Amber Appleton as she looks to navigate high school life, particularly her passion for the arts which she explores through drama club, with working at a donut shop in order to help support herself and her mom and spending time helping out around a retirement community. In other words, she’s juggling far more than your average high school student but don’t expect that to break her spirits.

Here’s how Netflix describes the film:

"Amber Appleton remains an optimist even when her personal life is far less stable than it appears on the surface. A musically gifted high school student with aspirations to attend Carnegie Mellon, Amber balances her beloved high school drama club helmed by Mr. Franks with working long hours at a donut shop to help support herself and her down-on-her-luck single mom. She also spends time at the local retirement community, giving care and attention to her favorite pessimistic resident. When new obstacles present themselves that threaten her dreams, Amber must learn to lean on the strength of her chosen family to move forward."

Interestingly, the synopsis on the film’s official Netflix page adds an additional layer of the detail to the story which is not referenced directly in the long-form synopsis. Warning, possible spoilers ahead:

"An optimistic teen clings to a huge secret: She’s homeless and living on a school bus. When tragedy strikes, can she learn to accept a helping hand?"

All Together Now movie name change

If the synopsis and cast of All Together Now sounds familiar, but the title of the film itself does not there’s a good reason!

When Netflix first announced the film and began casting for the project, the plan was for the film to share the same name as the book which it’s based on: Sorta Like a Rock Star. While it’s unclear why Netflix ultimately decided to change the name of the film, we can confirm Sorta Like a Rock Star and All Together Now are one and the same.

As we wait for the official trailer, Netflix has given fans their first look at the film’s core characters including Auli’i Cravalho as Amber, Fred Armisen as Mr. Franks,  Carol Burnett as Joan as well as some of the film’s other key players such as Rhenzy Feliz’s Ty, Amber’s best friend.
