Now that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has taken its final bow, it’s the perfect time to marathon the whole series. Also, Abigail Cowen–Fate: The Winx Saga‘s leading lady, Bloom Peters–plays a witch by the name of Dorcas in the show.

Like Fate, the newest adaptation of Sabrina Spellman’s story has taken a turn for the dark and twisted thanks to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s love of horror and thrillers, see Riverdale.

Based on Aguirre-Sacasa’s young adult comic book series of the same name with Robert Hack, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows the teenage witch’s uneasy walk between the human and the magic world. Upon her sixteenth birthday, Sabrina is expected to pledge her loyalty to Satan in a dark baptism as is a tradition among witchkind, attend the Academy of Unseen Arts, and leave her human life behind.

Inquisitive and headstrong, Sabrina refuses to accept the tenets and requirements of her family’s religion and culture simply because it’s tradition. It’s a position that causes conflict for Sabrina in the magical world from her fellow students to Lucifer himself. But if there’s one thing true about Sabrina, it’s that she’s not easily swayed or cowed no matter who stands in her way.

Netflix shows like Fate: The Winx Saga – 2. Cursed

Unlike Fate: The Winx Saga, the Arthurian re-imagining Cursed is based on legend not derived from folklore but the two series feature stubborn and determined heroines with larger-than-life destinies.

Based on the illustrated young adult novel of the same name by Thomas Wheeler and Frank Miller, Cursed re-centers the focus the legend of Excalibur on Nimue, a young woman fated to become the Lady of the Lake. But, for now, she is a teenage Fey who is ostracized in her village because of a “curse” they believe she bears.

When Red Paladins, Christian fanatics empowered by the Church, lay waste to her home, Nimue is tasked by her dying mother to deliver the Sword of Power to Merlin. On her journey, Nimue gathers allies such as Arthur and Morgana to her cause and in the process builds a coalition to stop the Paladins from extinguishing magic from the world.

Season 1 of Cursed is available to stream. The series has yet to be renewed for a second season.
