Must-watch shows and movies on Netflix this week: The Dig and June & Kopi

Next on the list, we turn our attention to Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes’s The Dig. Not only is it based on the 2007 novel of the same name by John Preston, but it is also based on true events.

The movie reimagines the discovery of the Sutton Hoo burial site. Back in 1939, it was found on Edith Pretty’s property, and it led to a now-infamous excavation effort.

With the war coming, there weren’t the hands available for the excavation, which led to Pretty turning to Basil Brown for help. While he hadn’t done something like this alone before, he did have experience, and he immediately knew they were likely dealing with a burial ground. The question was whose burial ground?

Maybe not whose. It’s all about what was buried under the mounds.

Watch The Dig on Friday, Jan. 29.

Finally, you may be looking for something for the whole family to watch. This is where June & Kopi comes in. And who doesn’t love a movie involving dogs?

The feature film is packed with joyful moments, drama, and tears. It has to all work out in the end, though, right?

It follows a street dog who finds a home with a family. This dog quickly learns the ropes and is a proud member of the family, a family that just keeps on growing. He quickly becomes attached to the newest member of the family, Karin.

When Karin goes missing, it’s going to be up to June and Kopi to help find her before it’s too late.

Watch June & Kopi on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 28
