In 2019, Virgin River premiered its first season on Netflix just a few weeks ahead of the Christmas holiday. Since it snuck in under the radar, the feel-good series didn’t really have its own moment to shine. But in 2020, Netflix debuted kindred spirit series Sweet Magnolias, which became a huge hit among those in need of the TV equivalent of comfort food. Naturally, when Virgin River debuted its second season during the Thanksgiving holiday, the series finally had its breakout moment as the necessity and requirement for feel-good content raged on at the tail end of 2020.

Based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr, Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge as midwife and nurse practitioner Mel Monroe, who arrives in the titular small Northern California town in search of a new beginning. She keeps her mysterious past shrouded by the community of locals, all of whom quickly become her instant surrogate family. The second season ended on a number of cliffhangers, leaving Jack’s (Martin Henderson) fate up in the air and the future of Doc’s (Tim Matheson) health in question. Thankfully, Virgin River will return for a third season in 2021 and provide all the answers we need. Season 3 can’t come soon enough!
