Why isn’t Batwoman on Netflix?

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, the first season of Batwoman premiered on The CW on October 6, 2019. The show stars Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin who decides to protect the streets of Gotham with her own brand of vigilante justice following Wayne’s disappearance.

The series also features the talents of Camrus Johnson, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Dougray Scott, Rachel Maddow, Sam Littlefield, and Elizabeth Anweis. In 2020, Rose departed from the series, and actress Javicia Leslie was cast as Ryan Wilder, a new character who will take up the mantle of Batwoman.

As reported by Newsweek, The CW has a streaming deal with Netflix that encompasses every scripted show presently airing on the network that premiered before the 2019-2020 TV seasons. Series that premiered after the fact are subject to separate contracts. For example, Riverdale, which premiered in 2017, is available on Netflix, while Nancy Drew, which premiered in 2019, can be viewed on HBO Max.
