Netflix adds 18 new movies and shows this week

We’re going into our first full week of 2021 and while you’re working on your New Year’s resolutions, you can also check out all the new movies and shows coming to Netflix. Whether you’re looking for a new, fun show all about swear words, a new heist series, or a film based on a popular book, the streaming service has a little something for everyone this week.

Season 1 of The History of Swear Words hits Netflix on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and stars Nicolas Cage as its host. I could not be more excited for this for no other reason than that it lets us watch Nicolas Cage scream swear words. What’s not to like? The show also goes into the history of swear words, how they became “bad” words as well as the original meanings behind them.

Take a look at the trailer here:

More in the mood for a heist series? (who isn’t?) If so, you definitely need to check out season 1 of Lupin when it comes to Netflix on Friday, Jan. 8. The show follows Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy), a janitor at the Louvre museum, who is out to avenge his father for an injustice done to him by a rich family.

To get justice, he’s going to steal a necklace from…. the Louvre. He and his team are going to pose as janitors to get inside and then take the necklace right from under the noses of the people trying to protect it.

This is in French so if you’re not fluent, you’ll either want to put on the subtitles or go with the dubbed version.

If you’re looking for more of a crime drama, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig hits Netflix on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The film is based on the first book in the very popular Millenium series by Stieg Larsson.

The film adaptation is directed by David Fincher and tells the story of a young computer hacker, Lisbeth Salander, the brutality she faces in her life, and how she eventually helps solve a 40-year-old missing person’s case.
