A new Netflix original series, History of Swear Words, is in the works, and Nicolas Cage is set to be the host. The unscripted series is scheduled to be released on Netflix on Jan. 5, 2021.
Deadline reports that in this series, Cage will delve deep into the origins of swear words. This series will also explore how swear words have been used in pop culture and their cultural impact.
In the Netflix series, each of the six episodes will discuss a different swear word with historians, etymologists, lexicographers and a slew of guest stars, including Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Baron Vaughn and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
According to the report, experts who will join in the conversations include Benjamin Bergen, Cognitive Scientist and author of “What the F.” He will be joined by fellow authors Melissa Mohr, “Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing” and Kory Stamper “Word by Word,” among other experts.
Below you can view Cage in the teaser as he angrily paints while eloquently describing a swear word that he is painting, he ends by saying, “It could also be a cat.”
This series looks like it will be a fascinating look at words that are considered to be ‘bad’ and where they originated.
The Oscar winner, Cage, has three streaming projects in the works right now. In addition to this series for Netflix, Cage is set to play Joe Exotic in Amazon’s Tiger King series.
