Mike Flanagan says there no immediate plans for The Haunting season 3
Fans of The Haunting anthology series will be sad to hear that creator Mike Flanagan has no plans for another season of the popular Netflix original series.
Flanagan is currently busy with many other projects, including the much anticipated Midnight Mass, which is also a Netflix series.
The Haunting brought us two seasons, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Both seasons were popular on Netflix and generated a substantial fanbase.
Both seasons used some of the same actors as new characters in a completely different storyline. Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Katie Parker and Carla Gugino are featured in seasons one and two.
Flanagan shared this news on his Twitter account when a fan asked if another chapter is in the plans.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy have a multi-year deal with Netflix that included the anthology series. Flanagan also shared that if they did pursue additional installments in The Haunting series, they would explore the definition of a ghost more closely.
"″A ghost is simply an element of the past that refuses to live in the past and instead just encroaches upon the present that it alters the present. It changes the trajectory of the person who’s experiencing that little piece of the past… That link between memory and ghosts and between ghosts and the past, that is the lifeblood of the show.″"
Their latest project for Netflix, Midnight Mass, will see the return of Siegel and Thomas along with Rahul Kohli, who was in Bly Manor. This will also mark Flanagan’s fourth production for Netflix. Bloody Disgusting reported there are several tie-ins to his other works. In Hush, a character wrote a book called Midnight Mass, and that book appeared in Gerald’s Game.
Midnight Mass will consist of seven episodes that take place on an island that experiences miraculous events and frightening omens. With the filming shutdowns, it was uncertain if they would be able to proceed. Flanagan shared on is Twitter just last week that they have wrapped filming and hope for a released date sometime in 2021.
Midnight Mass is on the list of the best Netflix shows with new season coming in 2021.
