Why It’s Underrated: After premiering in 2018 and airing three seasons, On My Block somehow hasn’t become one of the most popular Netflix shows. The coming-of-age series has attained some of the best reviews among Netflix originals and has amassed a small but loyal cult following. But as it enters touchy post-season 3 territory on the streamer, On My Block remains an underrated and undervalued gem that deserves a larger audience and far more acclaim.

On My Block takes place in the inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood known as Freeridge and centers on a group of four lifelong friends. Taking on both the struggles their circumstances and neighborhood present and the mounting pressures of young adulthood, the four friends begin their high school journeys together. The series takes an honest and unflinching look at the lives of four teenagers of color as they face real-world issues in a poignant manner.

Currently, there’s no official word on a renewal for On My Block season 4, which has left the fan-favorite series in limbo since the third season premiered in March 2020. Given Netflix’s apparent support for the series, another season seems all but likely.
