2. The Dundies (season 2 episode 1)

This is definitely up there as being one of the best episodes of all time. “The Dundies” is one of the most memorable episodes of the whole series. Why? Because it’s a perfect balance of hilarious, awkward, and sincere. Also, everyone’s been at a work party that didn’t go as planned.

If you’ve never watched The Office or have been living under a rock, The Dundies is Michael’s award show that takes place at the local Chili’s. He gives Dundies to people in the office and it goes about as well as you might expect. Ryan gets “Hottest in the Office”, much to his horror, Stanley gets the” Fine Work Award”, and Phyllis gets the “Busiest Beaver Award.”

Pam gets the “Whitest Sneakers Award” instead of her usual “Longest Engagement Award” but only because Jim stepped in and talked to Michael.

Besides the awards, Pam and Roy have a fight which leads to her getting massively drunk and encouraging Michael to keep the award show going despite customers in Chili’s heckling him. She also ends up kissing Jim and almost asking him something that could have possibly changed their relationship forever.

Up until this point, we really only saw a very controlled Pam. One who could have fun at work but kept herself pretty buttoned up. It was nice and hilarious to see her fly free for a little bit. She also admits that she wrote the graffiti about Michael in the ladies’ bathroom.

And, as we see at the end of the episode, Pam is also banned from the Chili’s because she was sneaking drinks off of other people’s tables.

This episode is for everyone who has been to an office party and felt like dying at the horribleness of it all. It’s hilarious, heartwarming with Jim and Pam, and awkward as ever.
