9 worst things Michael Scott has done on The Office

Michael Scott has done some terrible things in and out of The Office. We made a list of the worst things the character played by Steve Carell has done.

The Office will be leaving Netflix at the end of 2020, so we are looking back at some of the best and worst moments of the series. Michael Scott, the self-proclaimed best boss in the world, was anything but. He has done so many cringe-worthy things throughout the series. Viewers would watch and shake their heads in disbelief or squirm in their seats because his actions were just that horrible.

Below, we shared a list of nine of the worst things Michael Scott has done during the series.

1. The fake firings

Twice, Michael brought in an employee and proceeded to ‘fake’ fire them. He did this with Pam in the pilot episode. He was trying to impress the new temp Ryan and made Pam cry. She thought she was really being fired for stealing post-its!

In “Casual Friday,” he tries to do the same to Erin, the receptionist. She was a timid girl who had only been working at Dunder Mifflin for a short time. She was visibly upset, and luckily Michael couldn’t hold it together, and the pain of watching this scene didn’t last too long.

2. Kissing Oscar

Michael was always trying to convince everyone he wasn’t sexist, or racist, or homophobic, and after insulting Oscar, he decided to kiss Oscar in front of the whole office to prove something. Poor Oscar was so uncomfortable, as were all of the other employees present for this scene.

This was just one of the many times Michael made us all very uncomfortable by harassing the employees in the workplace.

3. Everything about “Diversity Day”

In another cringe-worthy episode, Michael decides to take the diversity training into his own hands. Dunder Mifflin hired an outside person to come in and teach diversity to the employees. We learn that this was only necessary because of Michael’s impression of a Chris Rock bit.

Like always, Michael just makes things worse, and the employees and the consultant are shocked at what Michael thinks is tolerance and diversity.

4. Phyllis’s Wedding

Phyllis was so happy to find her prince charming in Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration. The two make a wonderful couple and are excited to have their wedding.

But, there is always something that interferes with any monumental event in the lives of the employees of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. Micheal Scott.

Phyllis secures six weeks off for her honeymoon by allowing Michael to have a part in the wedding. His job is to push Phyllis’s father down the aisle in his wheelchair. As always, Michael makes the day about himself and proceeds to make things awkward and uncomfortable. He also gets kicked out of the reception by Bob because Michael bogarts the toast and says some inappropriate things about Phyllis.

He does find Uncle Al, so that we can give him credit for that.

5. Revealing Stanley’s affair

Michael has never been known for his tact, but he is known for feeling left out of the office gossip. In this instance, he was trying to fit in with the younger, cool interns, and their discussion about a night out at a club where they saw Stanely dancing with a woman.

In true Michael form, he digs until he finds out that Stanley’s wife is out of town and assumes that there is an affair going on.

6. Date Mike

In this episode, the gang heads out for a happy hour with the warehouse crew. Michael is hanging with Jim, Pam and Pam’s friend Julie, who she think might be a good match for Michael. They are having a lot of fun until Michael realizes what Pam’s intentions are. Then he brings out his alter ego, Date Mike, who acts erratic and unruly and ruins everything.

7. Pam’s Mom

Michael was ever on the hunt for companionship. When he met Pam’s mom, Helene, he was actually hoping to hook up at Pam and Jim’s wedding. The two hit it off and started dating without informing Pam, which didn’t end up well. Pam was furious.

They were a good match, but Michael is extremely particular about who he dates and will often find little things that bother him and break it off. He did this with Pam’s mom when he found out how old she was and broke up with her at her birthday lunch.

8. The Diwali Proposal

Michael brought his date, Carol, to Kelly’s Diwali celebration. He told her to come in costume, and she dressed as a cheerleader. She was appalled to find out it wasn’t a costume party. Then, Michael tried to steal the show and make the event about himself. He proposes to Carol in front of the whole crowd. You might think this is romantic but, it was only their ninth date! She turns him down and promptly leaves the festivities.

9. “Scott’s Tots”

This is hands down the most cringy episode The Office has ever produced. And, you just read about the other instances that were fairly cringy.

Ten years prior to this episode, Michael met a group of underprivileged children and told them that he would pay for their college tuition if they graduated high school. Thus Scott’s Tots was formed. He thought this would encourage them to work hard and graduate.

Fast forward 10 years, and all of these children are set to graduate. But, Michael has yet to become the millionaire he hoped to be and has to go to the school and break the awful news to these kids.

I squirm in my seat each time I watch this one!

Michael Scott started as a man who wanted to be liked by everyone and did anything to make this a reality. Throughout the series, he has done some majorly boneheaded things. He has exceptional salesmanship skills but seriously lacks other skills, especially in management. But, despite his faults, Michael truly loved his office family and wanted them all to love him back with the same enthusiasm.
