Here are the 5 must-see movies on Netflix this weekend, including The Prom

The weekend is here once more. If you’re planning on staying in and doing online shopping, you’ll want movies to watch in the background. It’s time for the must-see movies on Netflix this weekend.

There is something for all. If you need to keep the kids out of your hair while you shop for their Christmas presents, you’re covered. If you want a musical movie from Ryan Murphy, Netflix has your back. Here are the five must-see movies on Netflix between Dec. 12 and 13.

The Prom

Love Ryan Murphy? Adore Broadway? Want a movie with an outstanding cast? You’re covered on all three accounts with The Prom. It is now available to stream on Netflix.

The movie focuses on down-on-their-luck Broadway stars. When a small-town Indiana teen wants to go to her prom with her girlfriend, the Broadway stars rally around her to make that dream possible.

Canvas

Next up is a short film for the whole family. Canvas is a story of love, loss, and acceptance.

A grandfather struggles with the loss of his wife so much that he neglects his love of painting. One day, he decides to pick up the brush again, and his granddaughter is there by his side. It’s a beautiful story and the animation has been given a lot of praise for finally getting Black hair right in animation.

Ava

How about an action movie? While it didn’t get great reviews from critics or audiences, Ava is a good movie to put on in the background while you do your online Christmas shopping.

Jessica Chastain stars as the titular assassin, who finds herself as the prey when she starts to question orders. Can she evade her own team?

Super Monsters: Santa’s Super Monster Helpers

When you need something to keep the kids out of your hair, you’ll want to turn to the next of the must-see movies on Netflix this weekend. It’s all about a Super Monsters special.

This time, the Super Monsters will help Santa with a problem. While this is aimed at pre-school children, it can be fun for slightly older ones too, especially this movie since it’s all about Santa. Once you’ve finished watching it, put the whole series on. There are so many excellent lessons for children to take from this Netflix series.

The Netflix Afterparty: The Best Shows of the Worst Year

You’ll need to wait until Sunday, Dec. 13 for this last pick of the year. David Spade, Fortune Feimster and London Hughes present The Netflix Afterparty: The Best Shows of the Worst Year.

If you love lookback specials, you’ll adore this one. It’s a chance to delve into the shows that made us laugh, made us cry, and just purely entertained us through the worst year we’ve all lived through.
