Netflix shows we missed in 2020: The Society season 2

The Society season 2 was initially renewed for a season 2, but the pandemic reared its head and Netflix ended up canceling it. It was scheduled to start filming this fall, but with COVID still going on, the cost of a show with such a large cast and figuring out availability for all the actors likely caused Netflix to pull the plug.

The show first premiered in 2019 to great reviews from critics and viewers. The series followed a group of teens who go on a field trip. But when they can’t reach their destination, they turn around and come back home. When they get back, their town is not how they left it. It’s empty. Everyone is gone and now the teens must form their own community in order to survive.

The fans of The Society are obviously not happy about the cancellation and have started a petition to get the show back up and running on Netflix or on one of the other streaming services like Amazon Prime, HBO Max, or Hulu.

It’s definitely unfortunate that shows which were guaranteed renewal have that status revoked. It’s another hard truth of 2020 and The Society isn’t the only one show that was canceled after a renewal. I Am Not Okay with This is also not getting a second season because of the pandemic.

Besides the fans, it’s got to be hard for the actors and the crew who were first assured they’d have jobs only for that to be taken away.
