Netflix is often raked over the coals for having a higher than traditional cancellation rate. It’s true, Netflix does seem to cancel a large number of shows each year — 27 have already been canceled in 2020, after all — however, it’s often overlooked that they also tend to hand out an equally large number of renewals every season as well.

In fact, so far in 2020, Netflix has renewed 23 shows for new seasons and that’s not even counting shows that have been canceled but will get final seasons to wrap up their storylines.

Like in many years, the large majority of these renewals have gone to freshman series who performed well enough for Netflix to give them second seasons. Shows like The Baby-Sitters Club, Emily in Paris, Locke & Key, Outer Banks, and Sweet Magnolias have each earned a second season renewal so far this year. There have even been a few lucky freshmen Netflix shows to get two season pick-ups with The Circle and Love Is Blind each earning two-season renewals from Netflix.

There have also been a large number of veteran Netflix shows to secure renewals this year such as Emmy-winner Queer Eye, buzzy superhero favorite The Umbrella Academy, and everyone’s favorite obsession, You.
