If you’re a fan of Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, then I have some great news for you. Once again, the actress is teaming up with Netflix to make her next hit film.
As reported by Deadline, Brown is set to star in and executive produce a fantasy flick titled Damsel.
Most people know Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, a mysterious girl gifted with telekinetic powers on Stranger Things.
Brown recently starred alongside Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin in Enola Holmes, which premiered on Netflix in September. Based on the book series by Nancy Springer, the film followed the spunky heroine, the younger sister of famed sleuth Sherlock Holmes, on a journey to locate her missing mother.
Enola successfully evades gender constructs so that she can be herself, an impressive feat in a male-dominated world.
What is Damsel on Netflix about?
The title of Brown’s next project implies that it will likely feature similar lessons about female empowerment. I doubt that any characters in Damsel will actually be helpless, young women as the word implies. Instead, I’d bet that the film will subvert those expectations.
Damsel will be directed by Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The film will feature Brown as Princess Elodie. The princess believes that her happily ever after will start with her marriage to Prince Henry. However, Princess Elodie quickly finds out that her fate is much worse than she feared–she’s actually going to be sacrificed to a dragon!
I can’t wait to learn more about the plot of Damsel. Right now, it sounds like a movie for younger audiences, so I’m wondering what it will be rated. Hopefully, there will be a trailer out sooner than later!
