What you need to know about Stranger Things season 5 release date and more

There had been some speculation that the upcoming Stranger Things season 4 would be the last run for the incredibly popular Netflix original series. But that no longer seems to be the case after The Hollywood Reporter’s interview with the show’s creators where the two talented individuals unveiled that the next chapter set to hit the streaming service will not be the last and Stranger Things season 5 is on the way.

It’s nice to know the Duffer brothers have made good use of their downtime during the coronavirus pandemic and subscribers are very happy to learn that their beloved Netflix series will not be leaving anytime soon. While there is no official word from Netflix on Stranger Things season 5, the creators aren’t the only ones talking about it.

In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Stranger Things star David Harbour, who plays Hopper, commented on his character’s upcoming arc and that there is still plenty of stories left to be told.

"“I will tell you in Season 4 and in Season 5, if we’re ever able to film again, there is a lot to be revealed around the complexities of [Hopper’s] story, which is really rich, and I’m really excited for you to see. Because we know the ending, you’ll be able to go back and watch it and see, you know, what we were planting in Season 3 that paid off in Season 4 and Season 5.”"

Now that fans have heard from some of the show’s top players on the status of the Netflix original series’ future past the highly anticipated fourth installment, the question on everyone’s mind has got to be when will Stranger Things season 5 arrive?

Stranger Things season 5 release predictions

There is no official release date for Stranger Things season 5, and considering the fact that season 4 doesn’t have a spot for fans to make on the calendars yet, then it may very well take some time for one to make its way from the Upside Down to Netflix’s official schedule. It’s safe to assume that once subscribers have a better understanding of when the next iteration releases, they will have a more clear idea of when its follow-up could make its way to the streaming service.

TV Line reports that production on the fourth season of Stranger Things started sometime at the beginning of 2020, and filming was to take place in three countries over their shoot schedule, including Lithuania, Atlanta, and New Mexico. But in March, things shut down in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Then it was announced on Oct. 1 by Netflix that production on Stranger Things season 4 had resumed, and in December, it will move filming to new Mexico.

This news leads many subscribers to believe that the fourth season won’t arrive until Fall 2021 at the earliest, with a more sensible timeline resulting in a 2022 release date. Depending on when they start shooting, fans must look to 2023 and beyond for a possible window for Stranger Things season 5 to premiere within.

If we see Stranger Things season 4 in 2021, then it’s probably safe to assume Stranger Things season 5 will be out in 2023 sometime.

Stranger Things season 5 cast

There is no telling at this point who will make up the cast of Stranger Things season 5 until people have seen what happens in season four. Every season seems to contain an impactful death or cliffhanger disappearance, making it hard to ascertain who will still be around as well as who will be needing to make a shocking comeback.

In season two, we learned that eleven was still alive after exploding the Demogorgon, and it seems that hopper very well could have survived the events depicted at the enthralling end of season 3. So it would seem that the main characters are pretty immune to biting the dust, so it may be a safe bet for fans to rest assured that their favorites will still be around for Stranger Things season 5.

It usually ends up being the new guys that end up pushing up daisies in Stranger Things, but their lack of time in the spotlight doesn’t make their deaths any easier. Bob the Brain, Barb, and Dr. Alexie all were tough losses to swallow, and it will be interesting to see who they introduce and then take away in Stranger Things season 5.

Every season introduces excellent new characters, whether Mad Max in season 2 or Robin in the third season. There will undoubtedly be a slue of new and familiar faces making up the cast, making Stranger Things season 5 a must-see affair.

Stranger Things season 5 synopsis

There has been nothing officially released regarding Stranger Things season 5, and there won’t be anything coming out in that department for some time. Let’s all be honest. It really doesn’t matter what is going to go down; all that matters is that the fans get more Stranger Things.

One possibility could very well be a Mike and Eleven wedding. Despite the two going their separate ways in the season 3 finale, Millie Bobby Brown expressed her interest in that with Glamour as well as having her Eggo loving character get a well-deserved happy ending.

"“I always say to the Duffers, ‘Can she just not smile like in one take?’ I would love her story to be rounded off by like a good ending. I trust the Duffer brothers so much that it’s going to be beautiful and I’m going to love it no matter what it is.”"

She would also understandably like to regain her super-powered abilities because, honestly, who wouldn’t want to move stuff with their mind.

"“But I’d love for her to get her powers back because she is a hero, she is like a super woman in a way.”"

And while she does seem to want Eleven to walk down the aisle before it’s all said and done, Brown does admit it may be a challenge for the character.

"“And she loves Mike–I want them to get married. That’s what I need. I need a wedding scene for Stranger Things, period. Eleven in a wedding dress and her going, ‘Sorry, my nose is bleeding. It’s a white dress.’ Doesn’t it just seem like it would fit.”"

Whether or not wedding bells are on the horizon is still to be determined. Whatever the future holds, it’s safe to assume Stranger Things season 5 will have plenty of Upside Down action and Cold War encounters as well as plenty of Mind Flayer and Demogorgon sightings along the way.
