Buck up, everybody, because we’re here to talk about Evil. The first season of the supernatural drama arrived on Netflix this month and it has quickly become one of my new favorite shows.

The series stars Katja Herbers as Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist who trying to support her four daughters while her husband is away on a hiking expedition. In the first episode, Kristen is hired by David Acosta (Mike Colter), an assessor for the Catholic Church who is training to be ordained as a priest. Along with Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), a contractor and technology expert, the team investigates supposed supernatural events.

Evil sees the main characters frequently dealing with demonic possession and the occult, but what’s even more exciting is that the viewer often isn’t sure what’s real or fake by the end of the episode.

If you’re looking for a recap of the season finale of Evil, then you’ve come to the right place.

Evil ending explained

Throughout the first season, Kristen is harassed by Dr. Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson), another psychologist who seems to have an obsession with compelling others to commit sinful acts. In order to further torment Kristen, Townsend seduces her mother, Sheryl (Christine Lahti).

In the season finale, Townsend proposes to Sheryl, and Kristen forces her mother to chose between Townsend and her family. In the end, Sheryl chooses her new fiancé and Kristen kicks her out.

David takes hallucinogens during the first season, which he uses to interpret visions from God. In one of these visions, David sees an Euler triangle and a set of three stars, which he eventually determines to be related to RSM Fertility, a clinic that has connections to several of the team’s previous cases.

Turns out, Kristen and her husband went to RSM Fertility to conceive their daughter Lexis. Kristen had previously been having disturbing dreams about Lexis, who implied to her mother that she could see George, the incubus plaguing Kristen’s dreams. David believes that the clinic is actually a front for a demonic organization that has haunted the team all season.

In the first episode of the series, Kristen and the team help to imprison the serial killer Orson LeRoux, who had been faking demonic possession with the help of Townsend in order to avoid conviction. Unfortunately, LeRoux is set free and he begins showing up at Kristen’s house to taunt her. Kristen seems hell-bent on getting LeRoux to leave her alone, but she soon finds out that LeRoux has been killed and no one knows who did it.

Things take a turn for the worse when David has a vision of Kristen walking towards a horned demon, the same one seen talking with Townsend in the penultimate episode. After LeRoux’s death, Kristen picks up a crucifix, only to have it singe her skin. It looks like there’s something sinister in Kristen, or perhaps it was there all along.

The finale left viewers off with a huge cliffhanger and plenty of unanswered questions, so it’s a good thing that Evil was renewed for a second season!
