Mike Flanagan confirms that The Haunting season 3 is not happening

Mike Flanagan has hammered the final nail in The Haunting‘s coffin. According to a recent post on his Tumblr, there will be no third season of acclaimed horror anthology series. Beginning with The Haunting of Hill House in 2018 and ending with the 2020 installment The Haunting of Bly Manor, fans have been hoping for The Haunting season 3 for several years now.

But on May 3, 2023, Flanagan answered a fan question on his Tumblr to confirm, without a doubt, that it won’t happen. Those who have been keeping up with the filmmaker might already know that he has since departed Netflix and will be working with Amazon moving forward. His last Netflix project is the upcoming Fall of the House of Usher.

Why won’t there be a third season of The Haunting?

Flanagan confirmed that he is “happier” focusing on other things right now, and because he’s no longer involved with Netflix, it wouldn’t make much sense for the show to continue without him. Thankfully, The Haunting is an anthology show, so you can watch the two seasons available without worrying about cliffhangers or loose ends.

Here is his exact quote:

"I’m much happier focusing on other things… and being that I’m no longer at Netflix, that ship has definitively sailed. There will not be a season 3."

It isn’t entirely clear what Flanagan’s next project will be. He and his partner production company Intrepid Pictures, have signed an overall first-look TV deal with Amazon Studios. He also owns the television rights to Stephen King’s popular dark fantasy series The Dark Tower.
