Is the new Netflix movie, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, good?

The new Netflix movie, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which is the sequel to 2017’s The Babysitter, was released this week. Unfortunately, the reviews aren’t the greatest so far.

If you watched the first movie, you would know exactly what to expect in the sequel. It is the same gory, goofy, fun you expect from a horror-comedy. Fans who loved Bee (Samara Weaving) and Cole (Judah Lewis) and the friendship and storyline from the first movie will be excited to see the continuation of Cole’s story.

It is two years later, and Cole is living a life where no one believes he lived through the horror he experienced in the first film. Then old enemies return, and that is the beginning of a new series of horror for Cole and newcomer, Phoebe (Jenna Ortega), to experience.

According to Rotten Tomatoes,  the film has a 27% critic approval rating with a 78% audience score. That’s not bad for an audience score!

Screen Rant gave it a 2 out of 5, stating it was too similar to the original but with fewer fresh ideas.

Some critics have pointed out that many of the references in the movie are somewhat dated, and teens won’t get the jokes. But, it isn’t only teens watching this film. The older generation of slasher film viewers get a kick out of films in the horror-comedy genre, and those jokes will go a long way with them.

I’d argue that there are plenty of relevant references for the younger generation as well.

I can’t imagine someone watching Killer Queen without watching the first movie. That way, you can go into this film knowing what to expect and shouldn’t be disappointed about the content.

Overall, I thought it was a great movie that follows the norm for a horror-comedy and does a great job of continuing the story. You star Jenna Ortega stole the show and was an excellent addition to the cast. And, it doesn’t hurt that it does have a fantastic soundtrack.
