Ratched: Netflix shares final trailer for new series starring Sarah Paulson

Netflix is releasing some great new series this fall. None of them might be as big as Ratched, a psychological horror drama. Ratched premieres on Netflix on Friday, Sept. 18, and Netflix just shared the final series for the new Netflix show.

This series follows a young nurse and her journey from a timid newbie at Lucia State Hospital to a horrible monster in the treatment of her patients.

Fans of psychological dramas may find the name Ratched familiar. Nurse Ratched is the famous nurse who terrorized her patients in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest from 1975. This Netflix original series is an origin story of the famed nurse.

The character was originally thought up by writer Ken Kesey in the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.  Kesey based the character on a nurse he worked with at a psychiatric ward.

While the film received rave reviews and is considered, by some, to be one of the greatest movies ever made, some will say the novel is even better.

In 1975, Louise Fletcher portrayed the ironfisted nurse in the film, and now Netflix is bringing Nurse Ratched to life, and Sarah Paulson will be playing the character.  From the trailer, Paulson is effortless in this role. She seems to be calculated and all business with no room for error. Her sense of style and “not a hair out of place” look masks the inner turmoil and darkness that will eventually overcome her.

The final trailer shows a series that is not only superbly cast but dramatically filmed and so well written. You can view it below.

Sharon Stone, Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Vincent D’Onofrio, Judy Davis, Jon Jon Briones, Corey Stoll, Charlie Carver, Amanda Plummer, Hunter Parrish, and Rosanna Arquette also star in the series. It is great to see some of these big names tied to this project.

Ryan Murphy, who has given us American Horror Story, Scream Queens, and others, again joins Ian Brennan and is now using their collective genius to bring us this origin story that we never knew we needed. Along with Murphy and Brennan, other co-executive producers include Paulson, Evan Romansky, and others. Michael Douglas, who also worked on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, will also work as a co-executive producer on this series.

With great casting and brilliant minds behind the camera, this series is sure to be a hit. Fans of American Horror Story have been let down with the news that AHS won’t have another season this year are excited to see that this series may be able to fill the void for the time being.
