Netflix is adding over 20 new movies and shows this week

Netflix adds 24 new movies and shows this week

Somehow, we are already in the middle of August and while summer is quickly slipping through our fingers, one things remains the same: new content is still coming to Netflix. This week you can check out an Oscar-winning film, a documentary series about old video games, or a new season of a fan-favorite Netflix Original. There is something for everyone!

On Friday, Aug. 21, the first part of season 5 of Lucifer is finally here. Lucifer fans have been waiting for over a year for new episodes but now they can rejoice in eight new episodes. The series starring Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Scarlett Estevez follows the devil himself as he helps the LAPD solve crimes.

This season starts with Lucifer literally coming back from Hell but is it really him?

If you’re more in the mood for a docu-series about retro video games, you need to check out High Score when it comes out on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The show presents the history of classic video games and how they came to be. The six-episode series features a lot of the original creators talking about how they came up with the games we all know and love.

Or maybe you’re more in the mood for a book-to-film adaptation of a classic novel? If so, you can check out the 2012 rendition of Les Misérables starring Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen. It’s coming to Netflix on Sunday, Aug. 16.

The film won three Academy Awards, including for  Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Anne Hathaway as well as Best Sound Mixing, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

This week also brings season 1 of Hoops on Friday, Aug. 21 and Seventh Son starring Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges on Sunday, Aug. 16.
