Money Heist season 4 ending explained
Netflix’s hit series Money Heist follows a mysterious man called The Professor (Álvaro Morte), who recruits eight people who choose cities for code-names to carry out an ambitious series of bank heists.
Since its premiere in 2017, critics have lauded the show’s character development, the heart-pounding story, as well as its pacing. It’s no wonder that the Spanish series is the most-watched non-English show on Netflix!
If you’re trying to get caught up, here’s what happened at the close of Money Heist season 4.
What happened at the end of Money Heist season 4?
The final episode of season 4 is titled “The Paris Plan,” an operation that plays a significant role in how the season wraps up. The plan involves The Professor broadcasting an interview across Spain that reveals the torture that the government had inflicted on Rio (Miguel Herrán).
When the authorities hold a press conference to deny these claims, it backfires after The Professor releases subsequent videos showing how the government was illegally holding Lisbon, and a confession from the torturer.
For damage control, the government asks Alicia (Najwa Nimri ) to say that she had ordered all of the illegal activities, but when the time comes she instead blames the government, unknowingly furthering The Professor’s plan.
Lisbon is released and put on trial, allowing the team to tunnel under the court and swap her out with a lookalike. Finally reunited, the team goes off to deal with security expert Gandia (José Manuel Poga).
The finale ends with the team planning on avenging the death of Nairobi (Alba Flores), who was shot in the head by Gandia earlier in the season. Just when you think everything’s going to be alright, Alicia fires a shot at The Professor. She’s tracked him down and is ready to shoot him. Then, the screen fades to black.
For now, fans will just have to wait to see what season 5 of Money Heist has in store! Thankfully the next season has been confirmed by Netflix, and it’s expected to debut sometime in late 2021 at the earliest.
