ESPN Films, Netflix Michael Jordan documentary series The Last Dance drops on Netflix this Sunday

On Sunday, July 19, the recent ESPN Films/Netflix documentary miniseries The Last Dance is dropping on Netflix in the States.

This outstanding series provides a deep dive into the inner workings and seasons surrounding the 1990s Chicago Bulls, one of the best basketball dynasties ever, and particularly zeroes in on Michael Jordan, its most notable player.

ESPN originally broadcast the series this past April and May, pushed up from an initial June release due to pandemic-related circumstances. The ten-part miniseries premiered two episodes at a time weekly on ESPN.

The Last Dance closely examines Michael Jordan’s indomitable fame and athleticism, the structuring of the Chicago Bulls’ administration, and the lives of other Bulls players – such as Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and coach Phil Jackson – foregrounded against the 1997-98 Bulls’ conquest to win a second three-peat.

The series, all of which is powerfully directed by Jason Hehir, garnered acclaim from critics and viewers alike while provoking conversation about revisiting one of the most respected and admired basketball lineups in recent memory.

Netflix was responsible for the distribution of the miniseries outside the U.S., dropping each episode pairing the day after it premiered on U.S. screens. And now, American viewers will have the opportunity to binge the entire series if you missed it live!

If you’re at all familiar with Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls, or nostalgic for the good times of live basketball games, The Last Dance is a must-watch. The miniseries is an instantly fascinating look at some of the best players of the sport, who provide further insight via more recent interviews, and what it meant for them to be playing in and with one of the strongest sports teams. Be on the lookout for some absolutely killer montages of impressive plays set to 90s rap songs.
