The Kominsky Method canceled: Netflix orders third and final season

Netflix has canceled The Kominsky Method, renewing the Michael Douglas comedy for a third and final season.

The Kominsky Method is nearing its conclusion. Netflix has announced its decision to cancel the Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin led comedy from Chuck Lorre, but there is a silver lining for fans. While the series will be coming to an end, Netflix has ordered a third and final season of the show which will allow Lorre and the creative team the opportunity to give the show a proper ending.

In The Kominsky Method, Douglas stars as actor-turned-acting coach Sandy Komisky with co-star Arkin playing his agent and close pal Norman Newlander. After a breakout first season which landed the series the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, season 2 saw Sandy juggling with new challenges such as the introduction of his daughter’s new boyfriend and troubles with his health.

According to Deadline, production on the show’s third and final season has not yet begun and currently remains in limbo due to production shutdowns. As they note, due to the age of the show’s leading men, filming will begin once it’s deemed safe with no present timeline in place.

As such, it’s hard to predict when the third and final season might arrive on Netflix; however, all things considered, it seems likely The Kominsky Method‘s third and final season won’t arrive until sometime in 2021.

The Kominsky Method season 3 episode count

Another lingering question is the number of episodes the season will consist of. Both season 1 and 2 consisted of eight episodes, so it seems safe to assume season 3 will follow suit and contain eight episodes as well. However, Netflix has become known to hand out larger season orders for final seasons — as it recently did by ordering additional episodes for Ozark‘s final season — so there is a chance we could perhaps be treated to a season within the eight to twelve episode range.
