Best A24 movies on Netflix: 10. The Disaster Artist

James Franco directs and stars in the movie about the making of The Room, or “The Best Worst Movie Ever Made.” The movie is absurd and often ridiculous, but that’s just due to the nature of Tommy Wiseau, the character based on the real-life eccentric yet mysterious celebrity.

In a who’s who of comedic actors, Franco delivers one of the best performances of his career. He’s hilarious and encapsulates the ambiguous accent of Wiseau perfectly.

You don’t have to have seen The Room to appreciate The Disaster Artist (though, if you’ve seen it, you’ll pick up on a lot of fun details). The film does a great job of making you buy into the characters and actually relate to Wiseau. It is full of heart and laughs and will stick in your head like a movie about fulfilling what you set out to do while not being afraid to fail.

Best A24 movies on Netflix: 9. The Spectacular Now

Teen romance films can be a tired genre full of mediocre to bad movies, but The Spectacular Now stands out among the mediocrity. Led by Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley (who is ironically in one of the worst teen romance films in the last 10 years), this movie is a sweet look at growing up and grappling with new stages of your life.

While the romantic aspect of this movie is feel-good, the best part about the film is the way it explores how your childhood years shape who you become and how it is never too late to change for the better. The Spectacular Now is one of the more straightforward A24 films, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less poignant.
