Disney Plus releases Artemis Fowl tonight, and you don’t want to miss it

Artemis Fowl is the long-awaited release from Disney that should have hit theaters on May 29. Because of the movie theater closures, Disney moved back the film’s release date, and most importantly, they moved Artemis Fowl to Disney Plus.

That wait is finally over now, and the film will be released on Disney Plus on June 12. It’s expected that the film will be added to Netflix at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, June 12. That obviously corresponds to a 9 p.m. PT release time on Thursday, June 11.

We hope you’re staying up late to watch with us!

Artemis Fowl is based on an eight-book novel collection by Eoin Colfer. It follows Artemis Fowl (Ferdia Shaw), a 12-year-old genius who comes from a long line of criminal masterminds.

His father, Artemis Fowl Sr. (Colin Farrell), has disappeared, and Artemis, the younger, along with his trusty butler, seeks to find out what has happened to his father. During their quest, they come in contact with an underground fairy world.

The trailer below shows all the action and excitement that this film promises.

The film also stars Josh Gad, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel, Adrian Scarborough, and Miranda Raison, as well as Dame Judi Dench. It is directed by the great Kenneth Branagh.

In a recent interview with Collider, Gad compared the Harry Potter movies. We’ll see if the Disney Plus movie can capture some of the magic.

Overall, Artemis Fowl is more of an anti-hero than the hero that Harry Potter is. But, the magical world he finds himself in, as well as the people and creatures he encounters, is very Harry Potter-esque. So, perhaps this can fill that teen fantasy film genre void that we’ve experienced since the Harry Potter films.
