The CW’s Dynasty is the show you need to watch on Netflix

In a time when there’s no shortage in shows to watch on any given streaming service, adding another new title to your watch list can seem like a chore. But when you add a series as addictive and delectable as Dynasty, those three extra seasons in your queue are practically nothing.

Dynasty has attracted a worldwide fanbase on Netflix, which has recently grown with season 3 streaming on the platform after airing on The CW.

Still, the underrated (in many senses of the term) darling deserves to cast a wider audience net and snag a viewership likened to that of Riverdale and other CW breakout streaming sensations. Don’t wait any longer to jump on the Carrington bandwagon and join the craziest and most glamorous power struggle on television.

Based on the 1980s pop culture phenomenon, Dynasty follows the extravagance of the wealthy Carrington family as that wealth builds them up only to tear them down. Elizabeth Gillies plays Fallon Carrington, the ambitious daughter of energy magnate Blake Carrington (Grant Show) and flaky social climber Alexis (Elaine Hendrix). From internal clashes to bitter tugs-of-war with their enemies, there’s always some sort of showdown going down at the manor.

Dynasty is the best show you’re not watching

Unfortunately, Dynasty has a few things going against it that shouldn’t sour your desire to start streaming on Netflix at all.

For starters, it’s among the lowest ratings performers on The CW, and viewers sometimes have the inaccurate tendency to equate quantity to quality. Additionally, the series has grabbed numerous headlines for recastings (three different Cristals in three seasons!), providing an — again, inaccurate — air of inconsistency on and off screen.

However, neither of these issues should stifle your interest in checking out the series. If you loved shows like Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and Revenge, you’ll have just as much fun watching the twists and turns unfold on Dynasty. It’s a throwback to the kind of primetime soaps that filled our screens a couple of decades ago and completely relishes in the unpredictability of the genre. Between long-lost siblings to literal new faces, anything can happen in the world of Carrington.

Some will be quick to dub Dynasty a guilty pleasure, and for those who consider their entertainment tastes a little more refined, it will be. But there’s no guilt to be found when watching Gillies deliver one of the best vulnerable yet wicked rich girl performances this side of Blair Waldorf. And for what it’s worth, the recastings have only contributed to the delicious soap operatics of a series as narratively wild and in on the joke as this one.

Run, don’t walk, to add Dynasty to your Netflix watch list for an enthralling marathon of fires, murders and magnificent one-liners from Fallon. Since the series won’t return to The CW with its fourth season until later in 2021, given the anticipated production delays, there’s plenty of time to binge-watch all three seasons. It’s the kind of show you’ll find yourself obsessively talking to your friends about and discussing Falliam ad nauseam. What are you waiting for?

Dynasty seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 premieres on The CW sometime next year.
