Dynasty season 4 is among The CW shows being held for the new midseason in 2021

There are some burning questions after the Dynasty season 3 finale. Sadly, we’re going to be waiting a little longer than expected for the answers. Dynasty season 4 is among the shows being held for midseason on The CW in 2021.

The midseason is going to happen later in the year than we’re used to. Fall shows are being pushed to January 2021 due to the coronavirus halting productions, according to TVLine. That means the midseason shows are being held to spring or summer 2021. There isn’t a set season in mind for Dynasty season 4 just yet.

Why hold this series? The show is the lowest performer on the network. Those shows are traditionally held for the midseason to give them a better chance of renewals. The CW likes to get shows to 100 episodes if they’re renewed after the first season, giving them a better chance of syndication, so a move to midseason makes sense.

The downside is that this pushes the release date on Netflix back to later in the year internationally. Dynasty used to air weekly internationally on Netflix. Fans were shocked when the third season premiere wasn’t released the day after it aired on The CW. With no warning, Netflix changed the release to being one big drop at the end of the season.

Fans in the U.S. and internationally will get the third season on Netflix on May 23. Dynasty season 4 likely won’t drop until late summer or fall 2021 due to the delayed premiere release.

Dynasty isn’t the only fall show being held for midseason. Supergirl season 6 is also pushed to the new midseason. Meanwhile, fellow Friday night series Charmed is being pushed back to the Sunday night slot and will premiere in January 2021 with the other fall shows.

Dynasty is available to stream on Netflix.
