Netflix is adding 28 new movies and shows this week

A new week is here and hopefully, it continues like last week where people are willing to fight for Black Lives Matter. But when you’re not protesting or supporting Black creators or signing petitions, you might want something to give you a small break from the news. Luckily, Netflix has you covered. Whether you’re looking for a new Netflix movie by a famous director, a new season of an FX series, or the final season of a popular ABC series, there is something for everyone.

On Friday, June 12, Spike Lee’s latest film, Da 5 Bloods comes to Netflix. The film starring Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, Isaiah Whitlock Jr., Jean Reno, and Clark Peters tells the story of four Black veterans as they return to Vietnam to find the remains of their fallen comrade and the gold he helped them hide. The film goes back and forth between the present day and the past when they were in the war.

If you’re more in the mood for a series you can binge-watch, season 2 of Pose hits Netflix on Thursday, June 11. The FX series is set in the 1980s and explores different parts of society in New York City at the time, including, ball culture, the downtown social scene, and the Trump-like world of luxury and excess.

The show features Bianca as she forms a group to support LBGTQ+ youth who have been thrown out by their families. Blanca, along with Damon, perform in balls together where they’re judged on their dance skills, attitudes, and outfit choices. The show also follows Elektra, Blanca’s former house mother, Pray Tell, the godfather of the people who complete in balls, and Angel, a sex worker who falls for one of her clients.

Or maybe you’re looking for a show with murder and mayhem and a whole lot of drama? If that’s the case, a massive binge-watch of How to Get Away with Murder is in order. With season 6 coming to the streaming service on Saturday, June 13, you can watch all the seasons in one go! The show follows professor and lawyer, Annalise Keating (played by Viola Davis), and her students as they fight for their clients and try to get around all the crimes they have committed together.
