Let’s discuss the Outer Banks season 1 ending and how it sets up season 2

It’s been about a month since Outer Banks premiered on Netflix, and since then, the hit teen Netflix original series has been a major hit. Outer Banks has been a steady holdover on Netflix’s Top 10 list ever since.

Of course, everyone wants to know about Outer Banks season 2, but first, let’s discuss what happened in the Outer Banks season 1 finale and how that sets up season 2 of the Netflix original series. Spoilers below!

Outer Banks ended with the story hanging on to a capsized boat bobbing up and down in the middle of the ocean. Yes, the cliffhanger was that massive.

After Rafe kills Sheriff Peterkin, a few things are set in motion. Ward and Rafe tell the authorities that John B killed the Sheriff, and a manhunt is quickly underway for John B.

Luckily, John B evades capture using his instincts, foot speed (is he ever not running?) and a few strokes of dumb luck. John B and Sarah escape on a boat, but they are spotted by the authorities, and boat chase through the coming storm ensues.

After getting away from the authorities, their boat is overtaken by the waves.

Back in Outer Banks, John B’s friends and Sarah’s family, and everyone else, probably, believes the young couple have been killed by the storm.

Don’t worry for too long, though. John B and Sarah are okay and they are picked up the following day by a tanker heading for – guess where? – the Bahamas, the same place Ward stashed the gold.

What’s next in Outer Banks season 2?

The series takes an interesting turn at the end of the season that makes for a very interesting start to season 2.

Clearly, John B and Sarah are going to make a run at the treasure, but how? If it is processed and goes into Ward’s accounts, I’m not so sure they can get it out. Plus, it’s not like they can just Cash App or Venmo JJ, Pope and Kiara a cut of the profits from the heist.

So, I’m not sure how that’ll wrap up.

But, back in the Outer Banks, there will be hell to pay. JJ, Kiara, and Pope think Rafe and Ward are the reason that John B and Sarah “died,” and they’ll want to get their revenge. How far they will go, we don’t know.

And, on top of that, Ward, in his pursuit for the gold, has now lost his daughter. How will that affect the Cameron family dynamic? I can’t imagine that it will be smooth sailing at home.

In an interview with EW, Creator Jonas Pate also revealed that the show will be heading back to the Outer Banks in season 2 after a short break in the Caribbean. That means, likely, John B and Sarah will be headed back to the Outer Banks soon.

I’m hoping for a few things to happen. Obviously, we want these teens to stick it to Ward and Rafe and justice to be served. But, I’m also hoping there’s more treasure to find. That’s the part of the series that made Outer Banks different from other teen shows. They have to be on the hunt for more treasure in the new season. They just have to be.

Luckily, Pate also revealed that he wants Outer Banks to run for four or five seasons on Netflix! That means there’s probably a lot more Outer Banks on the way!
