Outer Banks could run for four or five seasons at Netflix

The Netflix hit series Outer Banks starring Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline could run for four or five seasons, according to creator Jonas Pate.
A few more seasons of Outer Banks might be on the way to Netflix. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Outer Banks creator and showrunner Jonas Pate has plans for the show to run four or five seasons on Netflix.
Outer Banks follows four friends living on a chain of islands off the coast of North Carolina. After John B’s father goes missing at sea, the friends get caught up in a wild treasure hunt that leads them into, well, less than stellar situations.
The first season hit Netflix back in April, and it was a huge hit. Netflix viewers love teen dramas, mysteries and thrillers, and Outer Banks checks all those boxes.
Pate also revealed that, while Netflix has not renewed the series for season 2 yet, the writers are already working on the story. Once Netflix gives the greenlight, season 2 of the Netflix original series will be a go!
Here’s what Pate told EW:
"“Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons,” he says. “We’ve sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.”"
It’s great to know the creative team has a plan heading into the season and potentially future seasons down the road. It will be a little surprising if the show makes it all the way to season 5. Many good Netflix shows never get that opportunity, but based on the popularity of the series, there’s a strong chance the series will run for three or four seasons.
The fans will be there for this show. If the story is there for a multi-season run, Outer Banks should get a few more seasons. Of course, that’d be awesome for fans! I’d be more than okay with it!
So, is there enough story there to continue? Spoilers ahead for the first season!
The first season of the series ends on a pretty big cliffhanger that will have some serious consequences.
At the end of the season, John B and Sarah are thought to be dead at sea after law enforcement chased them into a bad storm where their boat capsized. Somehow, they were able to hold on, and they are picked up by a ship heading for the Bahamas, which also happens to be exactly where the treasure was stashed!
Back home, Kiera, JJ, and Pope think John B and Sarah are dead. How will they move forward?
That’s where I expect the new season to start, but there has to be more to it than that. If there’s one treasure, there’s bound to be more treasure. There’s also the revenge narrative.
And, there have to be even more people coming to the island when they hear all the rumors about what’s happened with the treasure.
Even if John B and Sarah get away with the heist, someone will know and someone will want a piece of that treasure!
I want to see it all, along with all those twists and turns Pate promised in the EW interview. Hopefully, Netflix will renew Outer Banks for season 2 and beyond!
