There are a lot of mixed feelings about Netflix when it comes to coming-of-age TV. The streaming titan has dished out some amazing comedies focusing on teens and young adults, but Netflix has also become notorious for cancelling these dramas. How will it treat Never Have I Ever?

From the hilarious and brilliant mind of Mindy Kaling (co-created with Lang Fisher), comes Never Have I Ever. Set to premiere on April 27, the Netflix comedy follows Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a first-generation Indian American girl. Of all the shows debuting in the month of April, this has been at the top of our list!

Devi’s story was inspired by real events and stories from Kaling’s teenage years and personal experiences. Tired of living a regular, boring life, the comedy-drama will see Devi desperate to have an exciting high school year. The main focus for Devi and her friends is sex. According to Devi, if dumb high school girls have boyfriends, why can’t they?

It’s obvious that Devi wants to be a “normal” teenager more than her friends. But will this goal make Devi lose sight of what truly matters and push her friends away? Only one way to find out!

From the trailer, you already can’t help but love Devi. Actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is about to be featured in a breakout role and we can’t wait to see the doors this will open for the young actress. The diversity is a huge reason to want to watch. It’s about time a splash of color takes over the movie and TV world.

And if new and bright talent isn’t enough to capture your interest, there’s no denying that Mindy Kaling being behind this project isn’t intriguing!

Fans of Kaling have been excited about this series since it was announced late last year. Kaling has been an unstoppable force since her days on The Office. The actress was quick to add the titles of writer, producer, and director to her resume!

Some of her best work includes The Mindy Project, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and The Morning Show. We’re excited to check out her latest, Never Have I Ever. 

Finally, we all know Netflix is no stranger to a great coming-of-age comedy! Sure, it cancels a few just as we were falling in love, but it is home to some of the best out there! Let’s just hope Never Have I Ever is a permanent addition to Netflix’s menu.
