Get excited! Popular comedy writer, creator and actress Mindy Kaling is teaming up with Netflix for a brand new series inspired by her own childhood.

Mindy Kaling fans, unite! Netflix has just announced that the streaming service has picked up a new Netflix original series from the beloved comedian.

According to the Netflix tweet announcing the news, Kaling and Lang Fisher will serve as co-showrunners on the yet-to-be-named project.

This can’t be anything but good news. Casual viewers may know Kaling from her work on recent series like Champions and The Mindy Project, but her resume extends back even further and is incredibly impressive.

She was a writer and cast member on the highly acclaimed classic comedy The Office.  She voiced Disgust for the hit Pixar flick Inside Out and in very recent news she’s got a great new comedy film out called Late Night that made a killer first impression when it premiered at Sundance. Everything this woman touches seems to turn to gold, so Netflix’s team up with her feels like an incredibly smart move.

Netflix shared the news on Twitter via the See What’s Next account. Check out the information below!

So what can we expect from this new project? Just as she reflected on her Conan O’Brien past for Late Night and tapped into her mother’s years as an OB for The Mindy Project, Kaling is once again turning to her real-life experiences to inform her writing. The currently untitled project will be a coming-of-age series that focuses on the “complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl.”

Not only does this feel like a good fit for co-creator Kaling, but it feels like Netflix was destined to be the perfect vehicle for its distribution. Lately, the streaming service has been producing a ton of successful titles that focus on diversity, from three season of Queer Eye to the recently canceled (RIP) One Day at a Time. Telling minority stories seems to be a real priority for Netflix and we are more than here for Kaling getting her shot at producing a story influenced by her own childhood.

Additional details on the new series are limited right now, but we’ll keep you updated. This project is destined to be huge!
